Manning-Piper Wedding Social Event

A wedding of considerable interest to Whangarei was that of Miss Constance Anne Piper, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. O. Piper, East Avenue, Mt. Eden, and late of Kamo Road, Whangarei. and Mr John Wilfred Manning, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. W. Manning. Herne Bay, Auckland. The service was performed at All Saints' Church by Canon W. W. Averill, assisted by the Rev. H. T. Steele. Vicar of Whangarei.

The All Saint’s choir, of which the bridegroom, who is the registrar of the Bishopsccurt of the Diocese of Auckland, is a member, assisted in choral service and was augmented by members of the Auckland Dorian Choir, of which the bride is a member. Dr. S. Kenneth Phillips presided at the organ.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely frock of magnolia satin, the bodice of which was gracefully gauged into the pointed waistline. The long tight-fitting | sleeves fell away from the shoulders j in small pleats, and were finished j with points over each wrist. The back of the skirt was fashioned to form a very long oval train over which cascaded' the veil of billowy tulle from a top knot of orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of tuberoses and lilies.

In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Thora Davidson and Miss Betty Maxwell, who were dressed alike in frocks of ciel blue ninon over satin in the same shade. The swathed bodices formed V-necklines both back and front and from each shoulder fell a full length ninon scarf. The skirts were tight-fitting at the waistline and' gracefully flared to the ground. On their heads they wore top knots of cyclamens, and each carried a trailing bouquet of cyclamens and bouvardia. The bridegroom was attended by Mr John Gordon as best man and by Mr George Moody as groomsman.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at George Court’s tea rooms, where Mrs Piper received her guests wearing a frock of vintage-coloured lace. With it she wore a , toque in the same shade, and carried a bouquet of violets and cyclamens. Mrs Manning, the bridegroom’s mother, was in a frock of black Chantilly lace over black satin, the bodice being ornamented under the lace with alternate bands of rose taffetas and gold lame. She wore a black hat and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and roses.
