Rail Facilities In Northland
By the addition of new trains and the re-scheduling' of others, residents north of Auckland, particularly those residing beyond Whangarei, are now possessed of the best railway facilities they have ever enjoyed. A comprehensive re-organisation of the North line services has been effected by the Auckland District Traffic Manager (Mr H. C. Couch), with the result that workers and general passengers are now adequately catered for, more frequent and faster goods and livestock trains are running and there is a quicker and more beneficial turnover of all classes of waggons which is greatly appreciated by consignees and consignors alike. The re-adjustment has necessitated nine now trains and the re-scheduling' of five others. Traffic between Auckland' and' Kawakawa is rapidly developing and there is much increased goods activity on the Okaihau-Otiria line, which includes tire important Kaikoho area. The service between Whangarei and Opua has also come under revision, one notable improvement being in the carriage of livestock for Moercwa by which the keeping of stock in trucks overnight has been eliminated.
