Remits For Northland Dairy Parley
Among the remits for discussion at the twenty-fifth annual meeting of the North Auckland- Dairy Conference at Whangarei on May 31 will be the following:— Bay of Islands.—That the Government be requested to alter the end of the financial year from March 31 to May 31, bringing it into line with the end of the main production period in the Dominion. That the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Co. be requested to reconsider its action ih making charges for re-counting consignments of butter forwarded to the grade store in cases where there is a doubt. The inclusive charge for receiving and handling should cover such work, Hikurangi.—That this conference affirms the principle of orderly marketing at present in force on the British markets, and strongly urges future Governments to assign full control of the marketing of dairy produce to the New Zealand Dairy Board-. Kaikohe,—That the. Minister of Marketing be asked to fix the price of butter consumed in New Zealand so that the net return shall not be less than export parity. Kaipara.—This company desires to draw attention of the conference to the very serious delay in the delivery of fertilisers from the Auckland works owing to lack of both trucks and tarpaulins.
Maungatapere.—That orders and assignments on- cream cheques or alterations of orders already operating, must be received by the factory office by the fifth of the month, to participate in the payment on the 20th of that month. That this conference is opposed to the Dairy Board’s suggestion of altering the present brand on butter boxes to a-two-colour method, and the substitution of printed strapping for wiring as ftsod at present. ’
Kaitaia.—That this conference draws the attention of the Government to the serious resentment of the British public against the recent increase of tariffs against British goods.; and to prevent this antagonism 1 jeopardising bur primary exports, we urge that immediate steps be taken to create better feeling amongst consumers of our exports by giving better tradingfacilities for British industries. That in view of the constant rise in the price of New Zealand-made butter hexes, this conference take . steps to ascertain the present costs of the imported sub-standard butter boxes.
That this conference is of opinion that during the -operation of the guaranteed price scheme, the price should be determined for each season by. ai tribunal consisting of equal numbers of assessors appointed by the Dairy Board and the Government, and: presided over by a Supreme Court judge. That this conference is -'Of opinion that the tribunal’s order of reference shall provide for payment on a basis that will enable the producer to:— Pay competitive rates of wages; allow the producer a reasonable interest on capital invested in his farm and stock; enable the producer to meet any increased costs, including those resulting from legislation and including tariffs; •allow the producer a remuneration commensurate with the services lie renders to the community, and, with
