"L AZY bones, lazy bones, time to get up.” was the tune I woke to this morning. Yes, it was a thrush singing in the tree just outside my window! Seeing it wasn’t really cold, and it was a long time since I had seen a thrush anyway, I slid into my dressing gown, gave one little shiver (which no one heard), and pattered to the window. And there he was. right on the topmost bough, his head stretched up to the sun, his rich notes making the air alive with melody.
jpLOWERS, flowers, everywhere. . . Artificial ones. I mean! And don” they make a difference to a frock. The trouble is they are rather expensive, but I have found they are quite simple to make from strips of taffeta or organdie. Shape the petals and nick the edges a bit. and with some Stamens from old fiowers they can be made just as attractive as bought ones. J HAVE been gardening. It has been fun watching the freezias and daffodils pop up. Next thing they’ll be out, time goes so quickly. The chrysanthemums are nearly all gone, but there are such a lot of pretty leaves about that I have made the most of them. They don’t last long, but I love their rusty colours.
A nd that reminds me. I saw some poplars flaming against the background of austere Parahaki one day this week. They looked gorgeous—a little bright patch in a dull day.

JF you’ve got a black skirt for.evening wear, brighten it up with a Paisley silk coat or blouse.
yy’HEN on holiday up North. I climb-
ed to the top of a hill one day just as the sun was setting, and had the most wonderful view. All around me for miles, I could see the beautiful undulating country, and right before me were the Heads, the faint line of sen merging with the skyline. It was all very peaceful and satisfying. A patch of native bush grow on the incline below 'me from wlyich a tui sang full-throatedly. With such peace and contentment about mo, I couldn’t help wondering why there was so much disagreement and inability to understand others in the world.
JT is really difficult to arrange a party for children—especially when you do it at About four hours’ notice; which is what I did! Cooking all the dainties, arranging for the guests, decorating the rooms is not as easy as it sounds. However, the kiddies didn’t know it was done in such a hurry, and it really was amusing—• but I didn’t do it all by myself, as you may imagine.
LTHOUGH it sounds rather en- “ trancing to rise before the sun and trip out into the dewy fields, armed with a basket, it really isn’t—at least if you love your bed as much as I do! All the same it is quite an achievement when one can say one has seen the sun rise, and picked one’s own breakfast. I had some delicious mushrooms done in milk, and I did -enjoy them.
