Rare Stradivarius Soon To Be Played
Two violins, a viola and a cello made by Antonio Stradivarius and costing $250,000 have been purchased for use of the Musical Art Quartet headed by Sacha Jacobsen, according to announcement by the Stradivarius Memorial Association, says the “Christian Science Monitor.” This association was organised recently to aid talented musical students in obtaining fine instruments otherwise beyond their reach. The purchasers of these instruments are wealthy patrons of music who refused to have their names made public, the announcement says.
The two violins known as the Red Diamon, made in 1732, will be played by Mr Jacobsen and an unnamed instrument, dated 1703, will be played by Paul Bernard. The viola is the St. Senoch, made in 1726, which William Hymanson, will play, and the ’cello is .the Ben Venuto, made in 1730, which will be played by Miss Marie Roemaet Rosanoff. Emil Herrmann, dealer in rare violins and chairman of the Stradivarius Memorial Association, who made the announcement, said that title to the instruments would be held by the four individual purchasers until such time as the memorial association may be able to obtain them either by gift or purchase.
