Welcome To New Members Mangonui C.C.

The first meeting of the newly-elect-ed Mangonui County Council was held on Wednesday, Cr. W. Vickers, the chairman, presiding. The chairman welcomed the three new councillors. He was afraid there wag ia difficult period ahead in maintaiming roads. They were getting more assistance from the Government, hut traffic had increased, doing more damage to roads, and costs were also increasing. The Government had been handing over to the council side-roads in an unsatisfactory condition and they would have to be careful that they diet pot take over roads not up to the right standard. In trying to keep roads: up to the best possible standard, riding accounts had been Unequal to the, strain. Mr. Vickers said that, while welcoming the new members, he regretted theposs of the old members.. Mr Steed. /was a very able and publicspirited man. Mr Thojnpson had also been- a . valuable member, though he had been replaced by a capable man. As for Mr Wrathall, they all regretted losing;-him. He always had some surprise to spring on,the council. On; behalf of the new members,, Cr. Hoskin expressed appreciation of the welcome, fHe recognised' that they had to .take a broad view and : work, for. the; good of the county as a whole.'
