Library Committee Welcomes, Farewells
Mxsc M. Bain, librarian, was hostess: at: a pleasant function at the Whnngarei Library yesterday afternoon, when members of the old committee ('except two who were unavoidably absent) and the newcomers to the committee mot. At the same time. Miss I. Weaver, assistant librarian, who has resigned, was farewelled. Mr A. T. Brainsby. the past chairman, who after serving for 18 years on the committee, is retiring, presided, and extended a welcome to the new members, Messrs J, S. Woolley.D. J, Thomson and D. L. Srnedley. Tributes were made by Mr I? S. Finch (Hie new chairman). Mr F. W. Reid, other members of the committee and the new members to Mr Brainsby’s long service in the interests of the library and all expressed regret that he would not be presiding at the committee table.
In presenting Miss Weaver with a crystal jug from members of the old committee. Mr Brainsby eulogised her faithful service to the library, and expressed the committee’s hopes for her future happiness. Following Miss Weaver’s reply, the other two retiring members of the committee. Mrs Hill and Mr W. E. Crawford, were farewelled. Particular reference was made to Mrs, Hill’s interest in the library during her years as a committee member.
Mr D. T. Wood expressed the thanks of those present to Miss Bain and her helpers for arranging the function.
