H. Allan. The companies are to be asked, in what weekly quantities they could supply the material. Mr E. L. Whimp asked if it was not the Railway Department that had an objection to Hikurangi coal. The chairman, Mr J. A. Finlayson, declared that the cement company at Portland always kept a certain amount of Westport coal in case of emergency, as it could not store Hikurangi coal satisfactorily. Mr P. Gardner suggested, that this request might be beyond the board’s jurisdiction. The coal companies were bound, to look after their own affairs and do what was best for trade, Mr K. Farewell Dinner A farewell dinner was tendered in the Hikurangi Hotel on Thursday of last week to Mr and Mrs S. Meyer, who left the district to take up residence at Papakuwv Mrs A. Cadman was hostess. During the evening, Mrs Meyer was presented with an electric toaster, on behalf of the Hikurangi Hockey Club, of which she has been an enthusiastic member for many yeats.
