Victory For President Roosevelt

(Received 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 25. President Roosevelt scored a victory when the House of Representaties passed the revised wages and hours Bill by 314 votes to 97, in spite of determined opposition by the southern group, and after the failure of the latter to write in geographical wage differentials. The Bill now goes to the Senate, which previously passed a widely differing measure. The Bill provides for a minimum wage, beginning at 25 cents (1/3 New Zealand currency) an hour in the first year, increasing by five cents an hour each year until 40 cents (equal to 2/ New Zealand currency) an hour is reached. The maximum weekly hours is to be 44 in the first year, and 40 after that. The legislation would affect virtually all industries operating in inter-State commerce.
