“WITCH LONG FACE”
Long-Face was a cruel witch, who hated Princess Beauty. One day when Beauty. Queen Lily, her mother, and King Blueblood. her father, were walking in the garden a knight clad in armour rode up to the Princess. “Excuse me, my Princess, a man wishes to see you." “Thank you,” said the Princess, and went inside. 1 Now this man was really the witch disguised as a man. She spoke kindly to Beauty and invited the Princess to tea. The Princess promised to come with her. and said she would run and tell Lily, her mother, and her father, Blueblood. and away she went. When she came back the witch took her by the hand and called a carriage to take them to her home. The witch, still in man’s form, fumbled in her pockets for a tiny key. The Princess all. the , time never' thought who the witch was, because she had never seen where the witch lived before. “Ah, at last,” said the witch. “Here’s the key. my dear.” She handed the Princess a tiny key. “Unlock the door,” she said to the Princess. The Princess did as she was told. “I’m hungry,” she remarked brightly, but her escort threw off her cloak suddenly and faced the poor Princess. When the Princess saw who it was she called for help, and in rushed a pack of cats and dogs, who had been changed from humans to animals by the wicked witch. They killed the witch, and took the Princess home to the overjoyed King and Queen.
