Mr Colin Mcßae, Of Waipu
OBITUARY
The death occurred at the Whangarei District Hospital yesterday of Mr Colin Mcßae, aged 73. of Waipu. Deceased was a son of the late Mr and Mrs Murdoch Mcßae. pioneer settlors at the Whangarci Heads, whence they came direct from Scotland. Their property was the land in the vicinity of Bream Head, and here deceased farmed as a young man. Nearly 40 years ago he moved to Waipu. where his marriage to Miss Dolina McDonald look place. Ho acquired a farm near the centre of the settlement and soon identified himself with public affairs, serving on the directorate of the Waipu Dairy Company for several terms and being a member of the Waipu River Board, for many years. At the elections last
month he was among those returned j unopposed to the River Board. j In his youth deceased was one of i the finest batsmen in the North. A | powerful hitter he lofted a ball on to the roof of Captain George McLeod’s house adjoining the cricket ground at Whangarei Heads, a feat which has never been equalled before or since. j Mr McLeod was an estimable pio- | neering type, whose word was his i bond and who never shirked respousibility either in ids private or) public capacities. j The widow and one son—Mr M. C.; Mcßae, and one daughter—Mrs J. [ Russell, all,of VVaipu. arc left. Of the original Mcßae family, the surviving members are Messrs John Mcßae (Deveron Road. Whangarei), and Donald Mcßae COnerahi) and Mesdames Donald McGregor and Dan McKenzie (Whangarei Heads) and Mrs Mayes, Hamilton.
The funeral will' depart from the Waipu Presbyterian Church at 1 p.rn. on Friday.
