Mangonui Town Links Opened

The Mangcnui Town Golf flub held its official opening on May 22. visitors being present from the Kaitaia and Whangaroa-Kaeo clubs. Mr J. Feisst (president! welcomed the visitors, and called upon the club captain, Mr E. Mitchell, to drive Ihe first ball.

Mr Mitchell said that he would like to delegate that duly to Mr Frank G. Binney, of Auckland, whom they were glad \o sec present.. The principal trophy competed for by club members had been presented by Mr Binney at, the club’s inception, and each year since Mr Binney had given a handsome donation. Mr Binney agreed to perform the ceremony, and drove to the first green, a distance of 163 yards.

Mr Metcalfe, on behalf of Kaeo visitors. remarked upon the possibilities of the links. Afternoon tea was served by the ladv members of the club.

The president thanked the ladies for

their services and also Mr C. W, Harris for arranging to allow his grounds to be placed at the disposal of the club. The new links promise to be very good, and. considering that work on the course was not begun until a few weeks ago. the condition of the fairways and greens is surprisingly good. Next week-end a club match lias been arranged to lake place between Mangcnui Town and Keen Clubs on the Mangonui links.
