Compensation Court Sits

A sitting of an Assessment Court was held at Whangarei to hoar a compensation claim entered by William Woods (Mr. L. A. Johnson, instructed by Messrs Rishworth and Harrison), against the Whangarei Harbour Board (Mr. A, C, Lamb), Mr. G. N. Morris. S.M.. presided, and had with him Messrs F. Wakelin and Ft Thomson as assessors for the claimant and the board respectively. The claim was for £375 in respect of about two acres of land on the new road to Port Whangarei, and situated just across the bridge at the lower end of Cameron Street.- 1 The land taken for reading purposes was for the most part below tide level. Witnesses on both sides expressed the opinion that it would not be economical for any private individual to reclaim the land.

The sitting lasted all day and the Court made a unanimous award 'of 75.
