Jewels Of Song
This shining title was the apt choice of W. H. Davies for a dainty collection of short poems. Each one is intended to be a gem, and none extends for more than a couple of dozen lines. The selection extends over a wide range of English literature. A new edition has just been issued by Jonathan Cape, with a new title, much less attractive, but, perhaps, more indicative of what the book contains, “An Anthology of Short Poems.” A pleasant and quickening book for quiet hours, even for a journey, or bedside, though poetry, if worth reading at all, is for a wakeful mind. The author writes a new preface for tin's new edition, which is published at 3/6.
