£ls Fine And License Cancelled For 18 Months
“I prefer a man being found in a stationary car and not a moving one,” remarked Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court ‘this morning when John Knpx McKenzie, truck driver, appeared before him on charges of being found drunk in charge of a motor-vehicle, of not having a certificate of fitness for his vehicle and of not having efficient brakes cn his car. s Evidence for the police, was to *:he effect that defendant had been found asleep in his stationary car, intoxicated. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was represented by Mr L. A. Johnson. “I certainly do prefer a man to do what 'this man has done and find a quiet place to sleep it off,” said the magistrate. “Whichever way you look at it, however, defendant will be severely punished. He is a truck-driver and will lose his job. lam prepared to consider fines in cases such as this.” Defendant was fined £ls on Uiti drunkenness charge, with 10/ costs, his license being cancelled for 18 months, while on the charge of failing to have a certificate of fitness he was fined £l, with 10/ costs. On the third charge, th£/t of not having efficient brakes, defendant was discharged.
