N.A. Primary Schools President’s Report
“The union was formed only fa July, 1937, and I feel that work of great value was achieved in its initial year,’' states Mr K. M, Hayr, the president, in his report, which will be presented to the annual meeting of the North Auckland Primary School Rugby Union.
“The following unions became affiliated during the year; Rodney. Ota-ma-tea, Midlands, Whangarei, Bay of Islands and Hokianga. Northern Wairoa Union, expressed willingness to join as also did a representative on behalf of the Mangonui Union. I trust that during the coming season contact will ( be made with Whangaroa, and then the union will be representative of the whole of the district. Northland Tourney? “The mam work achieved was the discussion and planning of ways ana means ot improving and catering lor representative school football. If was deciaed to approach the Auckland Primary Schools Union to have the Roller Mills Shield tournament postponed to tne second week of the August holidays to enable a tournament on similar lines to be held in the North during the first week. At present, no word has been received from Auckland that this "has been done, but I feel sure that, if this will be arranged.
“It was recommended that, if possible, the Northland tournament should be held at Kaikohe. but, unfortunately, the Bay of Islands Union has decided that it is unable to stage the tournament there. I trust that a suitable venue may be found. From this tournament ft was suggested that a Northland team should be picked to compete in the Roller Mills Shield competition.
Assistance From Parent Union
“The North Auckland Rugby Union has recognised this union and granted us direct, affiliation. Thus it will be now possible for matters pertaining to primary school, football to be brought before the North Auckland Union by direct methods. “I wish to thank the N.A R.U, for its financial assistance and for the helpful and attentive hearing that has been given this union on all occasions. The first games arranged by the North Auckland Primary School Rugby Union were the matphes played as curtain-raisers to the South African-North Auckland game. The thanks ; of this union are due to the parent body for making those matches possible. “The executive received instructions to approach the N.A.R.U. to hand over the distribution of footballs to the schools union. This matter was brought forward, but, for the present, the union has postponed decision until more information had been received. I feel that it is only a matter of time and this right will be given to the schools union. Finances.
“The financial statement shows a sound position, though if touring teams are to be sent away, this side of the business will have to be considered by the incoming executive. “In conclusion. I wish to express my thanks to the members of the executive and the secretary for the manner in which they worked to place this newly formed body on a sound footing.
