t Special To “Northern Advocate W J AUCKLAND, This Day.
Under an extension order of the Agricultural Workers’ Act, it has been mandatory that workers in commercial orchards must join the New Zealand Woxdcers’ Union, and the onus has, been put on the employer, or his agent, to pay the union 25/ for each adult worker, and 10/ for each other worker. Orch'ardists in. the Auckland district are perturbed at the new legislation. The actual subscription to the union is 20/ and the balance, 2/, is for the Labour Party’s fighting fund, 2/ for the “Standard,” the official organ cf the Labour Party, and 1/ for a disability fund. One Henderson fruitgrower said on Saturday that there would be very strong; objections to -the why that Ihe 25/ would be used, and be considered that a very unfair practice had been introduced. In any case, it seemed'that 25/ would have to' be stopped out of the workers’ wages. He added that the fruitgrowers as a body had not had an opportunity, as yet, to consider the matter and express general opinions.
