AHIPARA. Mr and Mrs Ivan Berghan and Mr J. N. Berghan have left on a short holiday trip to Auckland. Messrs J. Ryan, R. Bowman and J. Houston are spending their Easter holidays in Auckland. Mr and Mrs Jack Allen and Mr Rex Angus, of Ponsonby, are the guests of Mr and Mrs Shirley Masters. Mr and Mrs Werner and family were visitors to Mr and Mrs Fryer over the week-end. Mr and Mrs Mitchell spent the week-end at the beach. Mr Dennis Masters is spending a short holiday at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs S. Masters. The long dry summer has resulted in the kumara crops that are now being harvested being extremely bountiful and unduly large. A 51b. kumara is more or less the average size but an out-size kumara weighing lllbs. 13ozs. was one grown by Mr M. Edwards. TAKAHUE. Mrs D. Mrs F. Jacentho left on Wednesday for Auckland and a tour of the North Island. Mr J. Hanna, of the Oruru dairy factory staff, left on Thursday for Auckland and Te Awamutu. Mr and Mrs R. Harrison, of Herekino, are spending the Easter holidays with Mrs Harrison’s parents, Mr and Mrs T. P. Kitchen. Mrs S. Mr Noble Graham, a well-known member of the Ahipara football team, has been admitted to the Kaitaia hospital suffering from pneumonia.

OKAIHAU. Mrs Jim Ogle, of Ramarama. arrived on. Monday night to spend several weeks’ holiday at her old home at Puketi. Mrs John Mackereth. who has been spending a short holiday at Hokianga, returned home on Monday. Miss Elsa Ware motored to Auckland on Thursday, witli Mr and Mrs Malloy, of Hovoke. Mr and Mrs J. Horne motored to Whangarei and Auckland for the holidays.

Sturge. of Waihou Valley. KAITAIA. Under the auspices of the Kaitaia branch of the W.D.F.U., a 500 evening, at which there was a fair attendance, was held in Foster’s Rooms on Tuesday. As a result of the evening’s play, the prize-winners were Mrs F. Puckey (first prize, ladies), Mrs Grey (first prize, gentlemen), Mrs Stubbs (consolation, i ladies), Mr Perkins (consolation, gentlemen). Mrs Stubbs was the winner of the competition. Mrs G. L. Hester and daughter, of Church Road, Kaitaia, arc spending a fortnight’s holiday at the beach. Mr S. Taua, Native Consolidation officer, and Messrs T. Ropiha and D. Waetford, surveyors of the Native Department, are staying at the Misses Reid’s.

Miss Esther Glen (“Lady Gay”), of the editorial staff of the Christchurch “Press,” and Miss H. Sternberg, of the literary staff of the “Press,” were tho guests of Mr and Mrs E. R. Heal over the week-end. The Rev, H. Taurau, of Pakatoe, was a visitor to the district over the weekend.

OTAUNGATLTtOTO, On Monday evening' the Kale Flower Memorial Hall was the scene of a very jolly concert staged by the Sunday School children, with the assistance of Rev. Thornley as chairman, and Mrs Arthur Cullen as pianiste. The concert opened with the singing of the National Anthem, accompanied by Albert Smith on his accordeon and Allan Flower and his mouth organ.

The programme was as follows: — Hymns by the scholars; recitations. Ana Smith ("If You’re Good"), Colin Foote (‘‘The Elf Man”), lan Cullen ("Singing”), Eileen Halligan (“Fairies".', Tom Underwood (“The Burning Penny”), Reg Macomack (“Toffee for Tea”), lan Foote (“Sea Gipsy”). Velma Smith (“Little Deeds”), Yvonne Flower (.“Tim and Ben”), Maud Underwood (“New Shoes”), Brian Flower (“My Black Hen"). Albert Smith, (“When I’m a Man”), Donald Cullen (“What They Like”). The prize-giving then took place, prizes being presented by Rev. Thornley, Mr Fred Cullen and Mr Arthur Cullen. \AII scholars received prizes of books and the tiny children received text cards. Tribute was paid to Mrs H. Flower, who has for many years been the secretary of the Sunday School. A pleasing incident was three hearty cheers far Mrs .Jack Allan, who was present at the concert. Later, a very dainty supper was served, bringing the jolly evening to a close. , OKAIHAU. Mrs T. Jordan, of Kaikohe, has been staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs Sigley.

Mr H. Goodhue, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs W. Imms, has returned to his home in Thames.

An afternoon was held at Mrs Fred Jordan’s home last Friday in honour of Miss Ruth Thomas, whose marriage took place this week. Mrs F. Jordan received her guests in a green floral marocam frock, while Miss Thomas wore a pink floral dress.
