Combined Church Service

About 90 Whangarei residents participated in the customary Good Friday Combined Church Service last night, held this year in the Salvation Army Hall. The service was conduct* ed by Captain C. L. Smith, while his brother, Captain S. A. Smith, of Paeroa, read the Scripture lesson. An address suitable ,to the Easter season was delivered by the Rev. H. J. Tozer, who took as his theme, “The significance of the Cross in' the lives of men and women today.” The Rev. Tozer spoke of the Cross first as revealing the “sinfulness of sin,” as well as the extent of God’s love for mankind and His redeeming power. He concluded with an appeal to his hearers to mark Easter as an advance in the progress of their spiritual lives.

The service was enhanced by a vocal solo by Mrs Captain Smith and a duet by Bandmaster and Mrs H. Rive.
