WASHINGTON, April 14.' IN A SPEECH ON THE OCCASION OF PAN-AMERICA DAY, PRESIDENT 1 ROOSEVELT SAID TWENTY-ONE AMERICAN REPUBLICS WERE FIRMLY RESOLVED TO MAINTAIN PEACE. ‘

“Peace will not be endangered by controversies within our family,’’ he said, “end we shall not permit it to be endangered by aggression coming froirt outside our hemisphere. ... . AAV.-,

Mr Roosevelt bluntly warned aggressor nations that the United StMes’i was resolved to maintain peace in North and South America, and would hoi-’; tolerate attacks on the principles of democratic liberty linking the two continents.

The peoples of the Western Hemisphere must be prepared to sacrifice their lives to preserve their hard-won. Democracy and inde-

pendence.

The President served notice on the world that the United States was determined that neither Fascism nor Communism would be allowed to obtain a foothold in either of the Americas.
