Children Here Get Sale Milk

DR. GILBERD Those who attended the meeting of householders in connection with the election of Whau Valley School committee heard authoritative assurances as to the purity of the milk supplied to local schools.

In the capacity of a parent the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. C. B. Gilberd. was in attendance: but he spoke willingly when matters touching upon his office were discussed.

In reply to a question the chairman. Mr. M. W. Porter, said the Health De-

partment took samples of milk supplied to schools for analysis, and gave an assurance the milk was perfectly satisfactory.

"The milk the children get here is very carefully guarded, ‘ said Dr. Gilberd, who described how the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health co-operated to this end. The milk was subject to careful testing by the Health Department which ensured its freedom from harmful bacteria, its food value and its freshness.

Whilst the pasteurising plant in Whangarei was not of most modern design, lie said it was proved

effective by test; children here were getting safe milk.

Mr. Porter, with experience of dairy factory work, was qualified to speak on flic subject, and said lie was perfectly satisfied with the pasteurising plant at present in use in Whangarei. Continuing. Dr. Gilberd said that where children did not stir up the milk, drinkihg the heavy cream in a “dollop” at the last, some became ill, and there were, too. some children with whom milk did not agree.
