Federation Of Labour Meets

Delegates to the annual conference of the New Zealand Federation, of Labour, at yesterday’s session, authorised the national executive to set up a special committee to report on certain anomalies in the Workers’ Compensation Act. The committee is empowered to make a thorough investigation of compensation law in New Zealand and other countries, and to bring down a report containing suggested amendments to the present law, which will be submitted to .the Government.
The Minister of Labour, the Horn H. T. Armstrong, addressed the delegates on several matters, including apprenticeship problems, indicating that the Government would welcome the co-operation of the Federation in these matters.
Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mr A. McLagan; vicepresident, Mr R. Eddy; secretary, Mr F. D. Cornwall; council, Messrs James Roberts and F. P. Walsh.
