MOVE FOR CHURCH AT RUATANGATA

A representative ’meeting of district settlers was 'held last evening for the purpose of considering a proposal for the erection of a new church at Ruatangata. Mr J. Court (Methodist Circuit steward) and Rev, H. Heaslip, Vicar of Hikurangi, were in attendance. In 1868 the settlers: built a church, which was later v burnt down, and the insurance, about £4O, was banked in a fund administered by Methodist trustees. Today, with compound interest, this amount has accumulated to £239. It was estimated that the present cost of erecting in concrete a church to accommodate 70 people would be approximately £350, after taking into consideration voluntary labour which would be available.
