MT. ALBERT TAKE SWIMMING HONOURS

Mt. Albert Grammar School gained the honours in the annual swimming contest \v. ; :lh the Whangarei High School , this morning, at the primary school baths. The final points were: Mt. Albert 17, Whangarei 13. There were six events, senior 100 yards and 50 yards, and intermediate 33 1-3 yards and 66 2-3 yards, and also a senior and intermediate relay. Results were: — Senior 100 yards: Goodison (Whg.) 1. Gurr (Whg.) 2, R, Hughes (Mt. A.) 3. Time:- 1.9 1-5. The swimmers were even at the end'd’ the first length, but in the second, Goodison 'began to pull ahead: and was leading by about three .! feet. He wgs first home by a couple of feet, with Hughes close behind Gurr. 50 yards senior; B. G. Biggs (Mt. A.) T, F. Wilson (Whg.) 2, M. Hore (Whg.) 3. Time: 31 1-5 secs. Inches separated the piace-getters, 66 2-3 yards intermediate: Ferguson (Mt. A.) 1, D. Rowe (Whg.) 2, T. Lane (Whg.) 3. Time: 43 3-5 secs. Another very close finish. 33d-3 yards intermediate: C. F. Lowe (Mt. A.) .1, W. Flavell (Whg.) 2. Moore (Mt, A.) 3; Time: 18.3-5 secs. A splendid race, with excellent time- recorded, Won by two feet. Senior relay: Mt. Albert (Biggs.

Protheroe, Ronayne, Reid) 1, Whangarei (F. Wilson, M. Hore, D. Goodison, R. Gurr) 2. Whangarei lost the advantage at the end of the . first lap when one of the boys failed to touch accrately, and Mt. Albert gained the lead, which they held despite strong efforts to close the gap. Intermediate ■ relay: Mt. Albert (Lowe, Ferguson, Rogers, Moore) 1, Whangarei (FlavGll, R. Palmer. T. Lane, D. Rowe) 2. Mt., Albert got the lead in the second lap and increased it in the third, winning by about four feet. '
