, Miss Dorothy Wilson, whose mamage to Mr Basil J. Pole, of Hawera, is to take place shortly, was the guest of honour at a gift evening held in the Portland Hall, under the auspices of the Women’s Institute. Miss Wilson looked charming in a dinner frock of petunia chiffon. On entering the hall, she was presented with a beautiful bouquet of autumn-shaded pompom dahlias by Mrs G. Hannah, president of the Institute. A largo number of Portland and district residents were present, and Miss Wilson was the recipint of many useful and beautiful gifts. Mr R. Potter asked Miss Wilson to accept the gifts with the best wishes of the company for her future happiness. Mr K, V. Wilson replied -on behalf of Miss Wilson. On Sunday evening the annual harvest festival service was held at the Portland Presbyterian Church. A large congregation was addressed by the Rev. Mr Way. Appropriate hymns were sung. The contents of the stalls, consisting of flowers, vegetables, fruit, bread and preserves were later sent Jo the Presbyterian Orphanage a|> Onehunga. , •••/ 1 Mr -arid Mrs G. Draper are touring in the North. Mr J. Roth well, of. Gisborne, has recently been the guest of his sister, Mrs E. Schofield. Mrs J. Mclntosh, of Larkhall, Scotland, is on a visit to her two sons, R. and J.l Potter, of Portland.
