'CHANGE IMPROVES SLIGHTLY

[•Special To “Northern Advocate’'] AUCKLAND, This Day. Following the noon call yesterday there was an improvement from the temporary stagnation which had been evident, and buyers came forward more freely to take advantage of the lower levels ruling. As a consequence, a substantial turnover w'as recorded at the last call yesterday. At the first call this morning another good list was finalised, and fresh bidding, though by no means keen, was better than yesterday. In the banking section, holders of Australian issues seemed less anxious to sell, and Dominion shares were firm at late rates, A variation from the downward trend in Australian industrials was provided by Huddart Parkers, which, in their first sale since December, sold 4/ up at 46/3. North Broken Hill, on the other hand, reflected more recent conditions in metal shares, with a sale of 46/3, a drop of 5/1. A number of Australian issues were quoted ex dividend, these including British Tobaccos, D, unlops, Generlal Industries, and Hume Pipes, with values adjusted accordingly. Values of Dominion miscellaneous issues were fairly steady. Gas stores sold unchanged at 20/1 and 20/5. Government stocks continued firm. There were buyers for almost all issues, but only one line was on offer, namely, 1953(-57s 'at £9B 10/. The 3 per cent improved, with buyers xxp to £lO7 15/.
