MEXICO MAY REPAY OIL COMPANIES

(Received 10 a.m.) MEXICO CITY, March 30. After strong representations from the United States Government regarding the the Mexican expropriation of the properties of the British and American oil companies, President Cardenas called an urgent session cf the Mexican Congress to consider an internal loan of 100,000,000 pesos, in order to repay the oil companies. Congress will also consider the modification of the export and import duties, the raising of which in January caused informal American protests. The American Ambassador, Mr Josephus Daniels, called personally on the Foreign Minister, General Eduard Hay, to deliver a Note containing a forceful protest, in which it is understood the United States insists that Mexico must reconsider the expropriation, and expresses hope of the affair on a friendly basis. It is understood Britain is co-oper-ating closely, and already has approved the United States’ course of action.
