N.A. CENTRE TOURNEY
Bowls
With 16 teams competing the annual full-rink tournament of the North Auckland Bowling Centre commenced today. The lower green belonging to the Whangarei Club has not recovered from the severe strain of play in the Anniversary Day tournament, and games were restricted to the top green. The result was that the heads were somewhat congested but the playing surface was in good order. In the absence of the president, Mr G. H. Wansbone, the vice-president, Mr B. R. Miller, declared the tourney open. Welcoming visitors from the Onehunga, Kaitaia. Dargaville, Hikurangi, Kensington and Whangarei clubs, Mr Miller, commented that the entries were not quite so numerous as last year. The centre, however, he said, did not care to impinge on holiday dates allotted to clubs for many years. ’
A few spots of rain fell this morning, but not sufficient to interfere with play. Provided the weather holds, the tournament will conclude tomorrow. SECTION ONE. Bound 1. Bain, Fleming, T. H. Wilson and Moore 22, beat Lambess, Hay, Coutts and Everett 20; Sirl, Ratcliffe, Lowe, Dr. Greville 19, beat Clark, Jounneaux, .Blanshard and Wilson 17; W. T. and S.
