ANOTHER CRISIS IN INDIA
IPer Press Association. Copyright .] (Received 12.15 p.m.) CALCUTTA, February 15.
The Government of Bihar and the United Provinces resigned because the Governor would not agree to release political prisoners.
A serious constitutional crisis is threatened throughout India owing to a desire of members of the Congress Party Government to release political prisoners.
Difficulties so far are confined to the United Provinces and Bihar, but it is probable that resignations of Ministers in these provinces may be followed by the resignation of the remaining five Congress Governments. Chandra Bofe, president-elect of the Congress Party, says the Bihar Ministry resigned under instruction from the Congress Party’s working committee. Other Congress Governments will certainly resign should the Governors maintain opposition to the release of political prisoners. Sir Harry Haig is Governor of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, and Sir Maurice Hallett of Bihar.
