By notice a resolution passed at a previous meeting, relative to the allocation of the sum of £llO for Richardson’s and Foster’s access roads was rescinded. It was resolved to reallocate £-60 to Richardson’s access road.
The remaining £SO was allocated to the Mission Access Road, Crs. T. H. and J. W. Hayes recording their votes against the motion. Rate Reduction Refused. A request for a reduction of rates by Mr J. H. Doar was refused on the grounds that in the opinion of the council the reasons on which the application was based did not warrant a reduction. The council agreed to co-operate with Mr Doar with regard to endeavouring to provide better access. Health Inspectors’ Salary. Unanimous support was given the Bay County Council’s action in protesting against any increased contribution towards the Health Inspectors’ salary. Maintenance of Roads. A letter was received from the district engineer pointing out that it was necessary when grants for metalling etc., were applied for, that the council give an undertaking by way Cfl a resolution that such works would be maintained efficiently to the satisfaction of the Public Works Department. The council resolved to comply with the wishes of the department. Sufficient Petrol Pumps.
A letter from tlje Department of Industry and Commerce was received in connection with an application from Mr W. H. Saies, for permission to instal a petrol pump on his property. The department was of the opinion that the amount of petrol consumed in the district did not warrant the application for the installation of any more pumps being granted in that district. New County Offices Wanted. The time was approaching, the chairman said, when the building of new county offices would have to be seriously considered. The building used at present was very inconvenient and was over 50 years old and any improvements effected" there would be a waste of money.
He considered that the question of rebuilding should be an issue at the next county elections. Engineer’s Report.
The engineer reported that the filling at the new bridge on Cattle Dip road was completed, and after approaches have settled, final metalling would bo done. The bridge over the Tarairc stream on the Matauri Bay road was becoming badly decayed and the question of its renewal would have to be considered at an early date. Metalling of Martin’s road had been commenced, but was seriously delayed by the unfavourable weather conditions. The lack of regular maintenance of water tables and culverts had caused considerable damage and a comprehensive system of maintenance was nebessary.
