WHANGAREI CONSTABLE IN N.Z. POLICE TEAM

The team to represent the New Zealand Police Force which will meet teams from different States at Sydney on March 5, has been selected as follows: Constables Fulton. Gillespie. McCarthy, Koefoed (Wellington), Tait (Hamilton), Callanan (Whangarei), Miller, Ryan. Duncan (Auckland). Furney (Oamaru). The team assembles at Auckland on February 23 and sails by the Awatea the same day. The tour has been arranged by the Auckland Police Sports Club, and will be the first team to leave New Zealand having the support of the Commissioner of Police. Fine Track Athlete.
J. T. Callanan has been stationed in Whangarei for nearly 12 months as a member of the district office staff. He is of fine physique and for several seasons represented South Canterbury in the pack. In the early part of last football season he turned out with the City Club on several occasions, and
was a certainty for inclusion in the Northland team against the Springboks. but had to retire from football owing to an old knee injury. He is a track athlete of no mean calibre. Although he has few opportunities of competing in open events in the North, he secured two thirds and a second in sprint events at the Dargaville amateur meeting on Anniversary Day.
