Spotlight on ... King Zog
A cable message last week reported the. engagement of King Zog of Albania to a Hungarian countess. Another message today alleges that the engagement was engineered by 11 Duce. King Zog I, who .is in his 43rd year, has been King of Albania since 1928. After the War the country was ruled by a Provisional ' Government, but in 1920 this was overthrown and was succeeded by a new Government which remained in power until upset by a further revolution in 1924. A new Constitution was proclaimed in January, 1925, under which Albania became a Republic under a President, elected for seven years. Ahmed Bey Zogu was elected President, but in 1928 the country was declared a democratic monarchy and the throne was offered to the President, who took the title of Zog 1, King of the Albanians.
