Lewis’ Conditional Peace Offer Rejected
(Received 10 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, January 26,
The leader of the Committee for Industrial Organisation, Mr J. L. Lewis, offered conditional peace in the labour faction dispute, whereby the American Federation of Labour shall absorb the C. 1.0., or vice-versa. He reiterated, however, that the C. 1.0. was “unwilling to surrender.” Mr W. Green, leader of the federation, rejected the offer, which he termed the “same old thing, identical with the impossible peace plan which Mr Lewis previously advanced.” “We are ready to resume negotiations as soon as the C. 1.0. takes the initiative,” said Mr Green, “but the latest statement by Mr Lewis does not offer a basis for discussion.”.
