Buying at the fat stock sale at Westfield yesterday was much steadier, values being firm in all departments except calves. There was a

general improvement in quality. Heavy stock came forward in large numbers, the best realising £l4 15/,

compared with £ls 10/ a week ago. Individual quotations, however, were generally firm, cows bringing up to £l2 12/6 as compared with £ll at the .former market. The average values were from 20/ to 40/ per lOOlbs.

Late rates wore maintained, with strong competition in the pig sale. Quality for a large yarding was well up to standard. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report: Beef. —Extra choice ox, 40/- per 100

Messrs Alfred Buckland report: Sheep.—Bidding was steady throughout. values being on a par with recent quotations.
