[Special To “Northern Aavocate”] GISBORNE, This Day. When a car in which they were travelling plunged, off the road and over a step bank on Maraenui Hill, about 27 miles from Opotiki, four members of the Main Highways Board party, who left Gisborne yesterday morning on a tour of the East Cape route to Opotiki. were injured on Tuesday night. After rolling about 100 ft. down a steep hillside the car came to rest in almost a normal position. The injured and their injuries are: — Mr A. J, Baker, deputy-chairman of the Main Highways Board; severely . shaken and bruised, not serious. Mr C. J. Talbot, of Fairlie, South Canterbury Counties’ representative on the board; cuts about the head and minor injuries. Mr O. G. Thornton, District Engineer at Gisborne; cuts on the hand and head and bruises. Mr Dj, Kawlinson, of Wellington, driver; bruised leg and cuts and bruises on the body. Mr Baker was the only one admitted to hospital. The others were able to proceed to their hotel at Opotiki after receiving medical attention.
