Mr Heath Hemphill, son of Mr H. C. Hemphill, of Whangarei, left by the Aorangi yesterday on transfer to the Suva branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr Hemphill, who was a pupil of the Whangarei High School, joined the service of the bank here, and was subsequently stationed at Te Kuiti and Woodville.
Mr F. J. Brown and Mr N. F. Philips, of Ohaeawai, are staying at the Waverley Hotel, Auckland. Mr H. K. Brainsby, of Whangarei, has completed his LL.B. examination. He received word yesterday that he had passed his final subject, Conflict of Laws.
Dr. E. Robertson was yesterday appointed successor to Sir Algernon Thomas, as chairman of the Auckland Grammar School Board.
Mr Justice Reed, accompanied by Lady Reed, arrived in Auckland yesterday from the Bay of Islands, where he spent a five weeks’ holiday.
Samoa’s oldest European resident, Mr Peter Paul, has died at the age of 88. He had resided in Samoa for 56 years.
