Have Trinidad Gamers Infringed Amateur

{Special To “Northern Advocate. "] WELLINGTON, This Day. \ PPARENTLY based on Iho report of an exhibition relay between Mow Zealand and Trinidad, the point has been raised as to whether the Trinidad Empire Games team has kept within the bounds of its amateur status. The team competed at a sports meeting at Masterton on Saturday, in company with the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre’s coach, A. L. Fitch. It appears the question concerns an exhibition relay between the two teams, the New Zealand team, of which Fitch was a member, being the winner. Under the International Ama-

tern* Athletic Federation’s rules, one who teaches, trains or coaches in any sport for money is a professional, ami the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has already ruled that Fitch does not possess amateur status, in New Zealand. The rules also stale that in track and field athletic sports any one who knowingly compotes with or against n professional thereby himself becomes a professional, while the New Zealand rules forbid officers or officials of any club affiliated to the association permitting a professional to take part in any meeting. The matter is being discussed today by the Now Zealand association.
