THE TALE OF A BAD FLORIN
Te following story is authentic and happened in a small town, in the Wellington district. A Chinese fruiterer noticed a bad florin in his till, and that night tendered it at the local picture show, receiving his ticket and sixpence in change.
The girl in th>> ticket box noticed the coin later and told the proprietor that the Chinese had tendered it. She was instructed, to purchase two shillings worth of oranges from the fruit shop. She did so. and tendered the florin, which was accepted, although the fruiterer recognised it. Next Saturday the Chinese again went to the pictures on his bad coin, and again the proprietor purchased his oranges. Every week the same transaction took place, and, as far as is known, the Chinese and the picture show proprietor are still obtaining some of their requirements by means of a bad florin. ■ : »i !', 'j£j
