QUEEN MARY AND THE PRINCESSES

A deep personal interest in the education of Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose is taken by Queen Mary, and a close bond of affection has grown between her and the Princesses. Since the tragic year of her husband's* death and her eldest son's abdication, the Queen Mother has devoted herself to helping- her grand-daughters. She has arranged to take them one afternoon every week to places of historical and national importance, and already they have visited the British Museum, the Tower of London and the Bank of England.

Shortly Mary will take them to the South Kensington Museums, the National Gallery, Hampton Court and the London Museum. An Ideal Guide. With her knowledge of history and her wide interest in art and antiques, Queen Mary is an ideal guide, and she is the only person allowed to see the secret diary (kept in a locked book) which Princess Elizabeth has kept since the beginning of the year. Often nowadays, when Princess Elizabeth is a little "difficult" she is induced to stick to her task by being told that it is specially for "Granny Queen." Her latest gift to her grandmotheris a set of egg-cosies. Just before, she had hemstitched two linen handkerchiefs and presented them to the Queen Mother.
