With the exception of One Tree Hill, the Labour Party will present candidates for mayoralty in all Auckland suburbs local body elections to be held in May. and will also make a strong’ bid for representation on various councils.

It was announced today that Mr A. Carside had been chosen to contest the Mayoralty at Onehunga and that the following were offering themselves as Mayoral candidates:— Takapuna, Mr C. M, Mills; Northcote, Mr S. Davidson; Birkenhead, Mr J. MacDonald; New Lynn, Mr J. Perry; Mount Eden, Mr W. J. Gatenby; Davenport, Mr M. O’Leary. A selection ballot will be held at Mount Albert.

For the city Mayoralty, the Labour candidate will be either Mr J. Sayegh, who was defeated by a small margin at the last election, or the Hon. Bernard Martin, the Deputy-Mayor. An exceptionally large number of women are to stand in Labour interests at local body elections.
