LITIGATION FIGURES FOR 1937

Figures in connection with the operation of the Whangarei Supreme Court for the year 1937 were released today and provide an interesting indication of the extent, of the business transacted. During the year there were 102 probates and applications, 210 bills of sale, six divorces, seven miscellaneous applications, four mortgages sales, six writs of sale and 15 actions. Figures for the Magistrate’s Court show that there were 531 plaints,, as against sdß for the year before, and criminal cases numbered 599 as against 691. There were eight bankruptcies, as against 14 in 1936. The amount sued for in the Magistrate's Court during 1937 was as follows: —March quarter, £1022 3s 7d; June quarter, £3369 15s 2d; September quarter, £IB9B 8s 6d; December quarter. £2553 18s lOd; a total of £8844 6s Id.

The figures for 1936 were:. March quarter. £2030 7s; June quarter, £2775 4s 3d; September quarter, £3135 9s lOd; December quarter, £ISOB 14s 2d; a total of £9449 18s 3d. ’ *
