EMPIRE GAMERS LEAVE MONDAY
[Special To “Northern Advocate”l AUCKLAND,, This Day.
The first lot of prospective competitors in the Empire Games will leave Auckland next Monday, when 29 of the 43 bowlers will embark for Sydney. Five are on the other side already, four left Dunedin, via Milford Sound and Melbourne, last week, and the remaining five are expeced to le'ave Wellington by the Awatea next Tuesday.
These are all going in advance of the Empire Games, in order to compete in the Australian bowling carnival, which commences on Monday week, January 17, and the team required for the Empire Games will be selected when the tournament is finished, probably about January 29.
Official Farewell
The Auckland contingent will be tendered an official farewell at the Carlton Green on Monday afternoon by the president, Mr W. J, Truscott, and the executive of the Auckland Centre.
Acting on advices from the secretary of the New South Wales Bowling Association, that the Canadian bowlers for the Empire Games would probably be on the Aorangi, due in Auckland on Monday morning. Mr Truscott sent 'a radiogram to them yesterday, inviting them t.o attend the farewell to the Auckland bowl-
It is expected that the party will comprise Messrs Grey. Richmond, Adam, Reed, Fleming and Denzie. Mr Grey was in the party of Canadian bowlers who toured New Zealand and Australia seven years ago.
