KAIKOHES TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Northland is rich in tourist attractions. having a fine heritage of seascapes. lakes, mountains and bush scenery. Kaikohe. itself a beauty spot, has many .such attractions around it. One of these is Tautoro Lake, at the foot of Tautoro Mountain, a.nd about 10 miles out of Kaikobe. on the Mangakahia road. Situated on the property of the Kaikohe Land Company, the lake is about If miles from the road, but; can be reached by car right up to the foot of the mountain. From lie re it is only a short walk over a hill to the right of (he mountain before the lake comes in view. Tautoro Lake. It is a beautifully clear stretch of water, easily 200 yards in width and twice that in length, with hush to the water's edge on the far side. Hills surround the water, the reflection of which is perfectly shown. There arc two Islands in the lake — one merely a small mound and the other of a fair size and good height, being bush-clad as are the hills beyond it. In this quiet spot, away from the rush of the town and busy seaside, a deep peace is to be found. Tahekc Falls. To the west of Kaikohe. in the settlement of Taheke, are the Taheke Falls. Only a ten-minute walk from the settlement school and the spot is reached. There are two falls, the large one being nearer and much more well-known, but the small falls are of an equal attractiveness and beauty.
