Sir Ernest Davis passed through Whangarei yesterday cm route to Russell. Sir Michael and Lady Myers arrived in Whangarei yesterday afternoon and stayed the night at the Commercial Hotel. Mr A. W. A. Perkins, who for the past 28 years lias been manager of the Auckland branch of Messrs. Dalgely and Co., Ltd., is to retire. Mr Perkins will be succeeded by Mr H. N. Eiby, at present manager for the company at Wellington, at the end of the month. Dr. L. Buxton, of Auckland, chairman of the executive committee which is planning the Roman Catholic Centennial celebrations, arrived in Whangarei this afternoon, and will spend to-night at the Presbytery, Bank Street, proceeding North to-morrow.
The Rev. W. H. Nicholas who has been minister of the Presbyterian church at Kaitaia for nearly five years, has been appointed to the charge of the Fitzroy church, New Plymouth. He and Mrs Nicholas will be leaving the north early in February. His successor at Kaitaia will be the Rev. J. Scarrow, of Rotorua, who with his wife and two children, is expected to arrive during the first or second week in February.
