NORTHLAND TRIBE

L * I "Advocate” Office, 1 1 Water St.. Whangarei. I TuO'dav. January 4, 1938. ■V Dear Northlanders, Here we are well and truly launched into 1938, And don’t forget, Northlanders?, that 1938 is to be a big year for all of us. We want it to be the happiest year possible—and. the royal road to happiness is by doing something to make other people happy. Talking of making others happy reminds me that I did not say "Thank you” for the scores oi greetings I received over the Christmas period. The Princess packed on my thanks, but today 1 want to say how very happy f felt that so many Northlanders remembered me in the hurly-burly of breaking-up and lastminute Christmas shopping. We’ve been so busy shifting furniture about and exploring the new H.Q. acquired by the Princess and me, that I’m afraid our time has been fully occupied. I’m very interested in tides these days, because I’ve discovered an excellent swimming pool at the very bottom of our garden. You’ve all read the poem about fairies at the bottom of "my garden,” but during the hot weather fairies positively have nothing on a swimming pool. And another acquisition is Kim. He’s not really ours, but we share him. Kim, you see, is a curlyhaired black spaniel, with the smiliest face in all Dogdom, His most cherished possession is a ball, which he insists on all visitors throwing for him, and his one delight is puddling in the mud—which is also at the bottom of our garden when the tide is out—and jumping up on the Princess’ clean frocks. Altogether we're having the most' exciting times putting our house in order—but I’m afraid the mailbag has suffered. All the letters we received, however, have been very carefully read, and it won’t be long before answers appear. We’ve had such glorious weather that I’m positive you’re all enjoying; jour holidays. Ours haven’t commenced yet, but we re having an excellent time just the same. Best wishes to you.
