VISITOR TO AUCKLAND ATTACKED WITH BOTTLE

A visitor to Auckland, Mr Philip Andrew Moore, of Tiniroto, near Gisborne. struggled to a shop from Victoria Park shortly after 7 o’clock on Friday evening. He was saturated with blood, which was still flowing freely from severe wounds in bis head. When he reached the shop, which is occupied by Mr G. Tylcoat, who conducts a tobacconist and hairdressing business, the victim of the assault was on the verge of collapsing and could only-state that one man had held him while another had assaulted him, hitting him with a bottle. Mr Moore lost his watch, a chain, and a wallet, containing £3/10/. The Auckland police consider this assault to be the worst committed in the city for some time, and are making extensive investigations.
The police and ambulance were immediately called by Mr Tylcoat, and the victim was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.
