TENNIS CHAMPS. END IN HOLIDAY ATMOSPHERE

Tennis

Play m the championship tournev of the North Auckland Lawn Tennis'Association was completed today at the hard courts at Mairtown. A holiday atmosphere prevailed and all games were thoroughly enjoyed. There wore some very close finishes. The final of the ladies’ singles was a marathon tussle between Mrs Farrell and Miss Griffin. At the close of the third set the scores were B—o.

With the exception of the boys' singles, all finals were very closely contested. In this match, however, the scores were no indication of the standard of play. T. Babe, younger of the pair, fought gamely to the end. and onlookers were greatly pleased with the exhibition. Both showed fine promise.

“In addition,” commented Mr K. Hayr, president of the association, “these two players have good court manners, and that means a big thing in tournament tennis.”

Both boys who contested the final are selected to represent Northland at the championships to be held in Christchurch next month, and it is expected that they will there gain much valuable experience.
