Sensational Submarine Rumours
I (Received 10 a.m.) LOS ANGELES, December 28. Sensational rumours were circulated in naval circles that an “alien flotilla of submarines” had / been operating off the Southern ; California coast and that the 1' naval authorities had sent out seaplanes to scout for them. Commander C. J. Wheeler, secretary to the Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet, Admiral Hepburn, ( said the naval authorities disj credited the report, which was a { week old, v “As far as the Navy is con- | cerned,” he said, “it is entirely j unfounded. At any rate, we have < not investigated it.”
