Clipper Flight Held Up Bad Weather Report:
Svedal to “Northern Advocate AUCKLAND, This Day.
The Pan-American Airways Clipper, which was to have left Auckland at 4 o’clock this morning for San Francisco, did not leave on account of an unfavourable weather forecast being made by Mr E. B. Buxton, the company’s meteorologist in Auckland.
“The forecast is for bad weather,” said Mr Harold Gatty, representative of the company in New Zealand. “It indicates strong head winds between here and Pago Pago and unfavourable conditions on the first section of the route. The Clipper will moor at her buoy for the night.” Preparations are being made for a departure tomorrow morning.
As a result of the postponement I of the departure of the Clipper, \ the 10,000 letters already posted I for airmail transportation are I likely to be materially increased, i It was announced last evening j by the postal authorities that the I mail would be reopened to the i public and that it would close j for registered mail at 6 o’clock I this evning, and at 8 o’clock for ; ordinary letters. I The Clipper is expected to carry over 18,000 letters. There were i 15,000 in hand last night and the j total was swelled today by the I addition of further mail from i various parts of the province and I the south.
