WANGANELLA DAMAGED IN COLLISION AT SEA

Advice has been received at Sydney that the Huddart-Parker intercolonial liner Wanganella, en route from Sydney to Melbourne, came into collision at 4.30 this morning with the trawler Buraween.
The mishap occurred 18 miles off Montague Island, which is eight miles off the coast.

The Wanganella has 108 passengers aboard, including 55 from New Zealand. It is believed she was struck amidship and that the damage is serious enough to compel her to return to Sydney.
Both the Buraween and the Wanganella were damaged, and are returning to Sydney, The
Wanganella will be unable to complete her voyage to Melbourne, and arrangements are being made to jake her passengers out by other
services. It is now stated that the collision occurred before dawn.
The Wanganella suffered damage
amidships, but the full extent is not yet known. It is not disclosed whether this damage is above or below the waterline. No casualties have been reported.
The nature of the damage to the trawler has not been reported to Sydney.
Captain, Bates, commander of the Wanganella, radioed that he expects to reach Sydney at about 4 p.m. today.
